Inclusive planning

A personalized adaptation of living, working or study spaces used by the person with disability is a necessity for them to achieve the best possible quality of life.
To personalize an architectural plan means to conceive the spaces according to the needs stated by the person with disability and by the family, bearing in mind functional limitations and the aids needed to compensate for these limitations. Rome ILC's personalization protocol for eliminating architectural barriers consists in:

  1. assessment of the environment context;
  2. simulation of the activities to be carried out in the area to be modified;
  3. final advice on the alterations to make.

Beside the occupational therapist, staff who may take part include: architect, peer counsellor, social worker.
